Elaboration of a strategic document for the achievement of the SDGs for water in ivory Coast (2030)

The Sustainable Development Programme, adopted by all United Nations member states in September 2015, aims to end extreme poverty, combat inequality and injustice, and fight climate change by 2030. Among the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the 6th aims to ensure access to sustainably managed water and sanitation services for all. In particular, it is about going beyond the issue of access, by also working to ensure availability, accessibility and quality of service.

The objective of this mission led by the International Environment Unit is to develop a sectoral strategy to achieve the 2030 water MDGs, and to do so by mobilising all the stakeholders in the field, coordinating approaches and establishing a common roadmap.

The challenges of the mission are as follows:

• Implementing the ambitions of MDG 6 at the sectoral and local levels;
• Unite all the actors around a common strategy;
• Define sufficiently qualified indicators to ensure monitoring;
• Integrate Integrated Water Resources Management, which is still in its infancy at this stage;
• Improve access to water in rural areas.

ICEA's tasks include:

• Carrying out a diagnosis of the sector, based on the identification of the actors and sectoral policies in force, the analysis of the financing of the sector as well as the existing indicators and monitoring systems;
• Define the objectives of MDG 6 and their implementation strategy, including the development of an investment programme and a financing plan, as well as the proposal of a monitoring and evaluation system;

And finally, to develop a sector policy letter.
